First Great Western
Owned by First Group plc, First Great Western (FGW) operates high-speed train services between London Paddington, South Wales, the Cotswolds and the West Country. FGW also provides semi-fast and stopping services throughout the Thames and Kent Valleys, the Cotswolds & Worcester, and on the North Downs line between Reading and Gatwick Airport, as well as a mix of long distance and local urban and rural services in the West and South West of England. Its franchise runs from April 2006 to March 2016. To coincide with the start of an extended franchise that is due to run until 30 March 2019, First Group started the process of ‘un-branding’ the business by changing the company name from First Great Western to Great Western Railway. The company adopted its current name and new livery on 20 September 2015.
