Owned by Arriva plc, Arriva Trains Wales operated a mix of long distance, regional and local rural services in Wales between December 2003 and October 2018.
It operated services in North, Mid & South Wales including the North Wales Coast & Conwy Valley lines, the Cambrian & Heart of Wales lines, Valley Lines network of services around Cardiff, services along the Welsh Marches & English borders as well as certain services to and from Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham.
The company began operating in December 2003 taking over from Wales & Borders. Following the introduction of the Railways Act 2005 and Transport (Wales) Act 2006, responsibility for the franchise was held by the devolved Welsh Government. Arriva Trains Wales' franchise expired in October 2018, the company did not bid to renew and it was succeeded by KeolisAmey operating under the name of Trafnidiaeth Cymru/Transport for Wales.
