Network South East
Before the sectorisation of British Rail in 1982 the system was split into largely autonomous regional operations: Eastern Region, London Midland Region, Scottish Region, Southern Region & Western Region.
Sectorisation of British Rail would instead see traffic organised by type: South-east England commuter services, long distance intercity services, local regional services, parcels and freight. Upon sectorisation, the London & South Eastern sector took over responsibility for operating the passenger services in the south-east of England,
On 10 June 1986, the London & South Eastern sector was relaunched as Network SouthEast which operated until 1 April 1994 when it was disbanded with its operations transferred to train operating units ready for privatisation.
