58047 'Manton Colliery' departs from Kiveton Colliery with 6G42 Kiveton Colliery-West Burton Power Station on 19/11/1992. The last shift worked in September 1994. A skeleton workforce along with contractors remained to close and demolish the colliery after almost 130 years of production. In 1995 the headgear was pulled down.
58024 passes Lower Basildon whilst working 6S65 1519 Eastleigh East NY-Mossend NY on 26/07/2001.The entire train as seen here would actually get nowhere near Mossend Yard, as during the trains booked stop at Didcot Yard, not only would the locomotive get replaced by 58026, but the uniform rake of curtain-siders would also be exchanged with an equally uniform rake of VGA's.
Same day, same train as the previous photo, totally different consist. With Didcot Yard acting as a collection/forwarding location for MoD traffic, it was not unusual to be able to record 6S65 south of Didcot and then again with a slightly different consist north of Didcot after its scheduled traffic stop. However on 26/07/2001, not only was the entire consist that had departed from Eastleigh Yard replaced, but so was the locomotive. So in this view taken two and a half hours after that of 58024 at Lower Basildon, 58026 passes Kings Sutton with a uniform rake of VGA's forming 6S65 1519 Eastleigh East NY-Mossend NY on 26/07/2001.
