47799 'Prince Henry' with 47798 'Prince William' visible on the rear of the train provide the power for the Royal Train on 05/08/2002. 1Z99 Preston-Carlisle is seen sedately climbing Shap at Greenholme. Extensive use of the Royal Train was made during the summer of 2002 (The Queens Golden Jubilee year). Here it is seen conveying HRH's The Queen & Prince Phillip from Preston to Carlisle at the end of their summers engagments. After a Garden Party in Carlisle the train continued on to Edinburgh (for the Royal Military Tattoo) and then to Aberdeen (for the annual holiday at Balmoral).
The next two photographs show the end of loco hauled Virgin Cross Country services. As can be seen, there was a good turn out at Nuneaton to see 47840+47847 off.
The next day saw the pair return north. However whilst at Penzance, depot staff renumbered 47840 to 47077 for the day. Here 47077 (47840) leads 47847 at Pirton Crossing.
